The Agriculture Education/FFA program at Flanagan-Cornell High School is designed to provide students with a fundamental knowledge of the diverse spectrum of the Agriculture Industry.  Students have the opportunity to take a four year sequence of classes which will give them basic background in Animal Science, Plant Science, Soil Science, Agriculture Mechanics, Agriculture Economics, and Agricultural Business principles.  The goal of the program is to provide both an awareness of the impact of Agriculture in everyone’s daily life and subjected if they pursue an agriculture degree at a two or four year college.  Agriculture education students are strongly encouraged to join and participate in FFA.  The mission of the FFA is to provide activities which will allow students to enhance their agricultural experience and develop their potential for Leadership, Personal Growth and Career Success.  FFA activities include attending both State and National FFA conventions, participating in Career Development Events such as livestock and dairy selection, land use evaluation and crop judging.  Members who earn a minimum number of points are allowed to attend the annual ski trip to Cascade Mountain in Wisconsin.  If members exceed 650 points in a given year they are treated to an expense paid reward trip to a resort or activity of their choice.  The chapter raises the money for their activities by cooking pork chops and serving meals for local groups.  In addition, the FFA Alumni members conduct an auction of donated items each spring which provides for scholarships ranging from $400 to over $3500 based on each member’s FFA activities over four years, and their career goals.

FCCLA

FCCLA gives peer education lessons to the lower grades on recycling.  They also run the concession stand for a Junior High Scholastic Bowl tournament and at the spring musical.  They helped with the Joe Regenold benefit and made lap quilts for the nursing home.
