High School Business and Computer Department

INTRO TO COMPUTERS 1 SEM 0.5 CREDIT (Required)
1 CREDIT HOUR with Heartland Community College


Introduction to Computers is a course designed to develop basic skills in keyboarding technique. Major emphasis in the first semester is placed on keyboarding technique, especially keeping eyes on the copy, using correct fingers on the keys, and using the correct sitting position. During the course, students learn how to format documents such as personal and business letters, tables, and reports. An overview of Microsoft Office is also included. Production of copies that meet business and classroom standards is stressed with a major emphasis on proofreading, editing, and correcting errors. An Internet safety and computer ethics unit will be addressed in the second semester.


COMPUTER APPLICATIONS 1 YEAR. 1.0 CREDIT
3 CREDIT HOUR with Heartland Community College

Computer Applications will provide the student with a background in the application areas of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. An introduction to web design will also be included second semester. At the completion of the semester, the student will be able to apply his/her acquired skills and knowledge for practical use at home, school, college, or work.
PREREQUISITE: Introduction to Computers

ADVANCED COMPUTERS 1 SEM. 0.5 CREDIT


Advanced Computers is devoted to a follow-up course to Computer Applications. Advanced skills will be addressed for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. Microsoft Access and Microsoft Outlook will be introduced. Students will create projects using a combination of software application programs. For juniors and seniors only.


DIGITAL MEDIA 1 SEM. 0.5 CREDIT


Digital Media is designed for students interested in web design, movie making, and picture editing. Students will learn how to design websites using several programs. Life-like simulations will be used to learn new skills for movie making and picture editing. Students will gain the knowledge and skills needed for success in digital media. For juniors and seniors only.

INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS 1 YEAR. 1.0 CREDIT


The major purpose of this course is to contribute to improved economic citizenship through a study of the business and economic environment in which we live. Areas of study will include business and financial affairs, and making wise consumer decisions. This course is for juniors and seniors.

ACCOUNTING 1 YEAR 1.0 CREDIT

Accounting courses introduce and expand upon the fundamental accounting principles and procedures used in businesses. Course content typically includes the full accounting cycle, payroll, taxes, debts, depreciation, ledger and journal techniques, and periodic adjustments. Students may learn how to apply standard auditing principles and to prepare budgets and final reports. Calculators, electronic spreadsheets, or other automated tools are usually used. Advanced topics may include elementary principles of partnership and corporate accounting and the managerial uses of control systems and the accounting process.
