Art Experience at FCHS
Art 1 Requirements:
Completion of daily assignments, weekly sketchbook, and assigned projects.
What to expect? Art 1 is an introductory course to the Fine Arts. We will heavily explore and implement the Elements of Art and Principles of Design through 2D and 3D media. Students will constantly be creating, but will be pushed to reflect on their creative process through discussion and critique of their artworks. Finished artworks will be displayed regularly in the high school hallway. Other opportunities will be available for students to display their artwork locally outside of school.
Art 2 Requirements: Previously taken & passed Art 1
Completion of daily assignments, weekly sketchbook, and assigned projects.
What to expect? Art 2 is a level up from the introductory. Now that students understand and know how to implement the Elements & Principles, we can begin to explore subject matter and composition content. We will discuss historical and contemporary artists, their artwork, art movements, and the impact these have on themselves, their community, and the world around them. Students will have more choice over their media in this course. Students will constantly be creating, but will be pushed to reflect on their creative process through discussion and critique of their artworks. Finished artworks will be displayed regularly in the high school hallway. Other opportunities will be available for students to display their artwork locally outside of school.
Art 3 Requirements: Previously taken & passed Art 1 & 2
Completion of daily assignments, weekly sketchbook, and assigned projects.
What to expect? Art 3 is much more independent than Art 1 & 2. Students will be given prompts for each project, how they interpret and execute is up to them. Art 3 students will have a month to complete each project independently with choice of medias. Students will constantly be creating, but will be pushed to reflect on their creative process through written reflections. Finished artworks will be displayed regularly in the high school hallway. Other opportunities will be available for students to display their artwork locally outside of school. Art 3 students will be required to submit artwork to HOIC Art Festival and Livingston County Art Show.
Art 4 Requirements: Previously taken & passed Art 1 -3
Completion of daily assignments, weekly sketchbook, and assigned projects and keeping a visual process diary.
Materials Needed:
What to expect? Art 4 is similar to Art 3. Especially, when it comes to independent working. Students will be given prompts for each project, how they interpret and execute is up to them. Art 4 students will have a month to complete each project independently with choice of medias. The difference between Art 3 & 4 is volume of projects. While Art 3 may only create one artwork per project, Art 4 will be pushed to work in series! Students will constantly be creating, but will be pushed to reflect on their creative process through written reflections and documentation of their creative process in a visual process diary. Finished artworks will be displayed regularly in the high school hallway. Other opportunities will be available for students to display their artwork locally outside of school. Art 4 students will be required to submit their artwork to HOIC Art Festival and Livingston County Art Show.
Independent Study
Requirements: Previously taken & passed Art 1-4
Completion of daily assignments, weekly sketchbook, and assigned projects. Organizing artwork into a professional portfolio and keeping a visual process diary.
Materials:
What to expect? Independent study is exactly as it sounds. Students will be working independently to explore media and gain a sense of who they are as an artist. Especially, when it comes to independent working. Students will not be given prompts, but rather will write a proposal for each project based on research and media exploration. How they interpret and execute each project is up to them. Independent art students will set their own deadlines, but must complete at least 5 strong artworks throughout the year. The difference between Art 4 & Independent Art is the classroom environment. Independent art students can take this class at their convenience! However, this means they may be sharing the classroom with JH or Elementary students. Independent art students will constantly be creating, but will be pushed to reflect on their creative process through written reflections and documentation of their creative process in a visual process diary. Finished artworks will be displayed regularly in the high school hallway. Other opportunities will be available for students to display their artwork locally, outside of school. Independent art students will be required to submit their artwork to HOIC Art Festival and Livingston County Art Show and will be required to visit at least 2 art museums on their own time.
